Summer Strategy Certificate (Jun-Jul)

In chess, there are not a lot of clear ways to demonstrate improvement or to know where you are in your chess journey. This is an issue the Grand Rapids Chess Center is going to address.

The certificate program models itself after other educational institutions–colleges, trade schools, and specialized training programs.

• Led and taught by experienced trainers and educators
• Defined learning goals and outcomes
• Active learning with interactive testing where students demonstrate mastery and skills
• Certificates build on each other to help improvers gain structured knowledge and skills.

2025 Launch – Summer Strategy Certificate

Goal: Teach students the essential positional and strategic elements in chess and how this knowledge impacts decision-making, calculation, and planning.

Cost: $99 per registrant

Schedule: Meetings will go from 7:00-8:00pm during Grand Rapids Chess Center meetings on the following dates.

• 6/10, 6/17, 7/1, (8th BREAK) 7/15, 7/29 Exam

Achieving Certification –

The class will be a benefit to all regardless of passing the certification test. However, those who pass the certification test will be awarded the GRCC Strategy Certificate – Level 1. This test will be based on positions that highlight the themes discussed in our classes. Students will be asked questions about the position and be graded on their answers.

This test will take place on 7/29.
