Rapid City Chess is a new community initiative with a vision to bringing the benefits of chess to our communities. It was created through partnerships between the Grand Rapids Chess Center and local Grand Rapids and West Michigan leaders and organizations. More on that coming soon!

July 21st – “Play the Master Simul”
In this event designed for students K-12 in the Grand Rapids area students will have the challenge of playing internationally titled Fide Master Joshua Posthuma! Originally from Holland Josh became a national master at the age of 15 and achieved his Fide Master title at 18. He is a full-time teacher and competitor that lives on the east side of Michigan. What is a simul?
A simul is where tables are set up in a u-shape with boards all around. Challenges are seated on the outside of this u-shape, each at their own board. Then, the master plays each game a move at a time moving from game-to-game. The goal is to survive as long as you can!
Where? Martin Luther King Park in Grand Rapids.
